# Tidy > Tidy is a free, open-source Mac disk cleaner (macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon). It shows what is really using your storage, including hidden app data that Finder never shows, rates every item Safe, Review or Critical, and can optionally use the user's own Claude Code for an explained "Smart scan". Key facts: - Free, MIT license. No account, no ads, no subscription. - Scans are local and nothing is uploaded. Smart scan is optional, user-started, uses the user's own Claude Code login (no API key), and can hide names of personal items. - Every deletion goes through a review sheet. Dry run is the default. User files go to the Trash. ~/.ssh, .git internals and system folders are never touched. - Limits: Apple silicon only in v1.0. Not notarized yet, so on first launch right-click the app, then Open. Needs the Full Disk Access permission. ## Pages - [Home](https://tidy.elyvatelabs.in/): what Tidy is, how sizes are measured, risk levels, Smart scan, install, FAQ. - [Guide: why Mac Documents storage is huge and how to find what is inside](https://tidy.elyvatelabs.in/hidden-mac-storage/): step-by-step, with a Terminal command and the usual hiding places. - [Full text for LLMs](https://tidy.elyvatelabs.in/llms-full.txt): the whole site as plain Markdown. ## Source and download - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/rparit-stacks/tidy): source code, issues, build instructions. - [Latest release (DMG)](https://github.com/rparit-stacks/tidy/releases/latest): the installer. - [MIT license](https://github.com/rparit-stacks/tidy/blob/main/LICENSE) ## Maker - [Rohit Parit](https://rohitparit-portfolio.vercel.app/): backend engineer, New Delhi.
